MEGA Morning

Many peak performers have daily practices that give them a deeper sense of well-being. Their daily habits and rituals promote mental and physical health. Practice improves concentration and focus resulting in higher efficiency and productivity; it creates space for reflection and improves emotional acuity leading to better communication and deeper relationships. These habits build confidence, facilitate growth, and increase impact and influence.

A framework I suggest for developing similar habits is to design every morning to be a M.E.G.A (Meditation – Exercise – Gratitude - Attitude) morning:

Meditation* –

Over the last decade or so there is growing scientific work demonstrating how mindfulness and meditation can improve focus, creativity, productivity, and wellbeing. Meditation is simple but takes practice. Of key importance is having the capacity for non-(self) judgement as you build your practice. Your mind will drift. That is OK! Start with one minute and take it from there.

Exercise –

The benefits of exercise are well known and documented. Peak performance requires emotional, mental, and physical well-being so do not skip designed physical activity. Evidence suggests morning exercise boost energy for the day and boost concentration so even if your prefer workout in the afternoon, try to spend a few short minutes daily for some stretching and movement.

Gratitude –

Science tells us that having gratitude and behaving in a benevolent way increases levels of happiness. Simples acknowledgement of what you are grateful daily is powerful. Start by journaling or saying out loud (with liveliness and passions!) every morning three things you are grateful for, happy about, brought you joy, or just made you feel good. Doing something for someone else just for the sake of doing, being kind, acknowledging others, offering help or thanks, all go a long way in boosting happiness. The opportunities are boundless every day!

Attitude –

Choosing your mental state, daily, is key for a designed, optimal life experience. Your mind is shaping your experience. How you think, act, and feel. Taking a few minutes every morning to create an intent and a vision for your day helps to cut through mental chatter and brings focus that is aligned with your true desire. You can come back to check in with the intent throughout the day. This cultivates awareness and presence so you can re-validate or change your intent as your day unfolds.
